About Us
Sarah Hopkins, M.Ed., RCT, CCC is the owner of Sarah Hopkins Counselling, established in 2019. Sarah is a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT). Sarah completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Saint Mary’s University in 2009 and her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2013. She completed her supervised practicum at a high school in St. John’s, Newfoundland providing counselling, career advising and assessment to students. Sarah completed her post-graduate candidacy period from 2015 to 2020 as an RCT-C under the supervision of a Registered Counselling Therapist. Sarah has post-graduate training and certification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Sarah is certified as a CPT Provider, a CBT therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder and related conditions. Sarah has thirteen years of experience providing individual psychotherapy services for various populations in multiple settings.
Sarah’s current area of practice is in the areas of workplace trauma and rehabilitation. Sarah’s professional experiences are in the areas of vocational counselling, rehabilitation, trauma and workplace injuries. Sarah has provided services through third party agencies and self-referral. She provided services for the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), a short-term counselling service often included in employee benefit plans. Sarah has provided career counselling and assessment to post-secondary students as a career counsellor at a local university and through private clinics. Sarah has training and experience in delivering vocational rehabilitation services, including, vocational evaluations, return-to-work-planning and job-search services to adults transitioning back to the workforce following an injury. Sarah has provided consulting services to government agencies, workers’ compensation boards and private agencies.
Sarah utilizes structured treatment interventions and informal therapeutic approaches drawing from cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive processing therapy and dialectical behavioural therapy. Sarah offers a safe, nonjudgemental space for clients to process and understand their emotional and cognitive experiences.
Sarah lives in Head of St. Margaret’s Bay with her husband, daughter and yellow lab. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and taking day trips throughout Nova Scotia.
